Focus is a Key to Success
With so many ebooks, books, teleseminars, courses, audios and videos available in Internet marketing, it's easy to get overwhelmed. One reader asked where he should start with the material he has acquired. In this video, I discuss the importance of focus, and how it is a key to succeeding in business.

Excellent advice, I too have been struggling with this exact problem. I am glad you posted on this subject. As always, great info from Joel Comm at just the right time of my progress in this adventure called Internet Marketing. Keep up the excellent work Joel! I know how busy you are with the other projects like The Next Internet Millionaire, but I really look forward to your video blog posts here.

Joel,
how do people get the mental "philosophy of focus?" What I mean is, with all the products and projects you have going on, what is your daily activity to ensure that you maintain a high degree or level of focus in whatever project you're working on at the time?
Thanks Joel!

I manage a fantastic Protege program and this is the number one problem I see - DISTRACTION. They try to focus but are easily distracted by the next 'hot' item. They think "This is the missing piece! If I just do this I'll start making money."
I would like to say that I am immune to such thinking but also find myself struggling to keep my focus.
Thanks for addressing the issue!

Hmmmmmm. So when I purchase the latest and greatest MRR product, start changing it, and the next on arrives in my inbox, purchase that one, I'm not focused? LOL
These are support questions I have received many times. What do I do with the product, how do I get started, It doesn't have everything I need, and so many more!
I simply say, "One step at a time." If you are restoring a motorcycle which does not run, you start with something like the fenders. Make them look the way you want. Continue to the next, such as the seat, or the instruments. DON'T try to make it run until last since it doesn't look good yet!
Starting it and using it is the LAST step. Reselling is the same. You don't want to put up your site if it ain't ready to run! Payment links, download page, sales page, all needs to be completed first!
Ready, Fire, Aim only works for those who are experienced. The newb will never find success in this manner.
FOCUS on step 1. FOCUS on step 2, etc until you are ready to start your engine.
Great vid Joel!
Thanks!

I think overwhelmed is an understatement for many of us working to get started as Internet marketers.
The free stuff is bad enough but once a person has purchased a few products on the subject (yours first of course!) it's hard to know where to start. And the distraction of daily launch emails about the next great system don't help.
Here's what I did recently to get focused. I opened a new Gmail account then created a new profile in Outlook and set it up to send and receive through the Gmail account. It is incredibly refreshing to open Outlook, choose this profile, and not have any new messages - let alone 50, 75 or more.
I then did a quick scan of the info I had downloaded and programs I had purchased so far and chose ONE to really dig into and implement. I then went to the site for that program and updated my contact info with my new address.
I'm in the process of working out my plan of action and entering tasks into my nice clean Outlook profile dedicated which is now designated for use with the chosen strategy.
I only open my regular Outlook profile a few times a day to check for important messages ignoring all the others.
So far this approach has really helped to clear the mental clutter and I'm finally getting things done.

Your videos are great. I'm just wondering whether I can grab the embedded code and use the video clips on my blog as and when I see fit to go with a relevant post. Thanks.

Great comments, all!
Sure Mark, the embed code is there so you can put it on your site. Enjoy!

Focus ... yes ... thou shalt know thy target audience ... and specialize, baby ... internet marketing certainly opens the way for catering to extremely specific wants and needs, because, first of all, the cost of calling out to one's target audience has been dramatically reduced ... and second of all, the ability to identify their wants and needs is more easily discerned simply by observing successful online marketers, like Joel Comm.
Distractions get their power, I believe, because someone is successfully tugging at one's emotions.
If you want to get a full helping of marketing presentations that pull at one of the basest emotions of all -- the want for money, money, money ... with little or no effort involved (Yeah, sure!) -- just click on my name below. Every now and then you'll see some really slick presentations using very cool Web 2.0 video technologies, the likes of which I have never seen before.
I am suggesting this because you can "Learn and Earn," not because I believe you are a sucker for such offers. You also can gain some List Building experience, FREE OF CHARGE, if you wish ... something to sharpen your focus in one of the most critical components of a successful marketer's arsenal ... right Joel?
So, go ahead.
