Your video resonates with what I am currently doing, I am finally launching a site that should have been done years ago, but through the past couple of years I honed the skills and met the people and created the relationships that will now make this dream not only a reality, but a success. This project finally brings together all my passions and skills. Glad to see you encouraging people to follow their passions and do what they were made to do.

  2. Chester Chen Says:

I was quite lost this afternoon and this video suddenly make me awake.

Thanks Joel. I am going to figure out the calling in my life. ;)

p/s: Maybe u should start a TV show like what Oprah did. hehe.

  3. George Says:

Excellent question to ask. It's easy to forget our passions.

Even though I have gone through similar processes before, I am going to go ahead and ask some people I know this question. Maybe I will be surprised.

    Thanks!

  4. Heidi Ross Says:

Not only did I find this video inspirational in a way, it also reinforced what I have been wanting for a long time now, My own internet business. In the past I have tried but did not stick with it. I let myself get sidetracked. This time I am not going to let that happen and I am determined to make my dream/passion a reality. I had also let my fears get in the way.

But, it is time to get past my fears and go for it. If I let my fears keep holding me back, I will never get what I have wanted so badly for so long. And as time goes by I want it more badly. Anyhow, I enjoyed your video and have a nice day.

  5. Shannon aka Newbie1 Says:

Great timing! Just back from a workout where I was contemplating the topic of follow my passions or go back to a "Corporate" job. The quest to support the family and live my own dreams is a delicate balance. I took the leap 1 month ago to break free and start my Internet Marketing training but finances are getting low and asked for a sign - and poof, your video. It really hit home. Glad you are following your passion and getting your messages out. What you said is very true. Keep talking I love listening and yes you have a good radio voice!

  6. Kim Says:

Thanks Joel good stuff and ideas as always. Someone had recommended that I read "Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow" by Marsha Sinetar.
Which is right up there with what you are saying in your video today. If you aren't following your dreams, you know it even if its on a subconscious level.

The bravest thing you can do after you figure out just what you are passion about and after talking with others is taking that first step.
Some of us decide we don't want to work for others, and thats a big step it self. Following your heart and there will ways be some way of making money with your passion. Little hard work never hurt anyone.. :)

  7. Barry Roy Says:

I'm a firm believer in the basic premise of the video, but along with being an unique individual I have a unique problem; too many passions. That's why I have 11 domains representing different "passions." But I love your exercise to find your passion. If nothing else I hope to reduce my list. It really is hard to focus on 11 passions at the same time.

  8. Edward Inea Says:

Joe, I like you because you so real . You know how to connect to people by giving examples of who you are by your true life stories . Two things I am passion about is exercise, running, health, and speaking which I am doing now . Trainning for the Marathon and Toastmaster . I know there's more hidden. I will ask my girlfriend what she think it is ?
    "Have a Great Day." Shel

  9. Anonymous Says:

    Joel,

This topic is so crucial to personal or business success. I know from experience what a negative impact NOT following dreams or doing what we're hard-wired to do can have on mental and physical health. Believe me, nothing good comes from ignoring, postponing, or letting other things have greater importance over doing what we love. It's like trampling on a beautiful gift from someone who cares about us.

I've blogged about this twice recently:

Video is well produced with nice graphics too. Nice job Joel.

  11. Anne Gormely Says:

This is an excellent exercise! I had done a similar exercise a little over 3 years ago and it led to the creation of my present internet business.I am however, curious to see what others will list as my passions!

Thank you for this wonderful video. It helped to reinforce the goals I have set for myself and reminded me that I am on the right path.

  12. Mary Says:

I just received the email in my inbox and was not able to view it because it said that video was no longer available. With that said, no comment about video.

  13. Wiebs Says:

So true, so true, Joel. Bloody trees! Nice to have in the forest and around the house but they sure do get in the way.

It is important to be able to hear what that influential person might have to say to you on your behalf. You listened to your mother-in-law, not letting your pride and ignorance get in your way.

Life in general is geared to knock you down, grind you up and throw you away. It takes perserverance and goals to overcome the grit (and trees) that gets in the way.

    Great post Joel. Thanks.

  14. Daniela Says:

The problem is when you have too many passions that won't make you money. I guess Joel referred to passions that could be monetized.

  15. Bob Says:

Your post resonates with me also, Joel.

I've been a believer and a student of the Law of Attraction since seeing The Secret a little over a year ago. I do believe that people can be whatever they want to be if they set goals, BELIEVE they will achieve those goals, and act upon them when opportunities present themselves.

Looking back on my life (before knowing anything about the Law of Attraction), I eventually achieved everything that I was centering my attention on. Some of it was quite slow, but basically everything was achieved. The one that really blows me away is that in my career I went from being television news videographer (which I always wanted to do), to changing focus a bit and work video production in a spiritual setting - which actually came about several years ago - and I still do that and love it!

Now my goal is to be able to do this while at the same time start making REAL money - so I'm becoming an entrepreneur while still doing the video production work. I plan to eventually make enough money as an entrepreneur to do the video production work for my church denomination for free. I have a long ways to go to learn how to be an effective (and wealthy) online entrepreneur, but as I said, I've always eventually achieved my dreams - and I will achieve this one too (someday!)

If you'd like to read more about my journey (so far), come see my "About Me" page on my website!

Thanks for a great post, Joel!

  16. Dan Says:

Just because you think that following your passions won't make you any money, doesn't mean that they won't lead to opportunities that will.

For years I wanted to find a way to simply get paid for coming up with ideas.. My family thought I was nuts. Now I'm Vice President of Ideas for Joel's Company, Infomedia, Inc.

  17. Miroslav Says:

Hi, Your words are inspirative. But, You know, there are so much inspirative words on internet that are nothing but commercials, and if one follow dream and spend his last cent on commercial, than maybe his dream will be even further.... Marketing is sooo fuc... thing even the worst fraud is covered in sugar...and people always have to make their decission in the very beginning, when they are soo unexperienced. Sorry, it is friday afternoon and i am a little bit tired and having this dark thinking.

    Hi Joel,

Thank you for this highly motivational video. It comes through
that you mean it from the heart.
    Greatly appreciated.

  19. David Says:

Excellent. I have personally been trying to work around my bizarre schedule to finish my site and start building my list. To do what I really want to do with my time.

  20. Shelley Says:

    Hi Joel,

Great stuff. It can be challenging to jump into the unknown - the voice of experience speaking here - and more often than not when you do follow your heart chaos can follow for a while. Particularly if you are worrying about "where's the $".

My experience has certainly been though, stay true to your calling and life will unfold in the most delicious way. It's simply a matter of faith. Just like you have faith that when you hit a light switch the light will come on. So too when following your passion. If the light doesn't come on, you go in search of the reason why, because you know that light should appear. Do the same when following your passion. How can I do this and make a living from it too. When you get that creative, ideas will come from seemingly nowhere.

If you go to my website you'll find an article about creating your personal mission. It may help anyone who's just getting going on this journey.

    Best of luck

    Joel,
You are such an inspiration, and a contribution to so many!
I've just spent a year developing a course on your subject of life purpose.
You summed it up! We spend so much time looking outside ourselves for empowerment, while our talents, aptitudes, and intentions are showing us what we are capable of.
It's not about empowerment....we're already powerful...it's about fulfilling our unique potential and purpose.
You're a person living in his potential...thanks for being you!

    Joel -

I just wanted to add that there is a clip of Will Smith (famous actor) and Napoleon Hill (famous author) on my website, both of whom are great video clips that make your point about going after what you were made to do.

  23. Ralph Says:

Thanks for the reminder and encouragement.I must admit trying this passion experiment on a number of occasions but get stuck with a way inwhich to carve out that NICHE.

The things that interest me the most have tons of competition (ie;video games, music, nascar racing etc..)

Any insight as to getting around over competitive NICHEs would be a great help.

Keep up with the videos..There great!!

  24. Mike Says:

I am definitely not doing what I was made to do.

In fact I would probably not even own a computer at this time if it had not been for the accident that I got in 13 years ago. :-)

But I am starting to have some fun with our forum.

Passions? Hmm. Fishing? But it's hard to make a living with that when you can only get out once or twice a week. Current world affairs? Not with my limitations.

But I could start a fishing category and a news category at my forum, look for the best ways to monetize it and send a bunch of traffic there.

Hmm...good plan. I think I'll just do that. Thanks for the motivation Joel.

    Mike

  25. Community Joint Ventures Says:

    Hey Joel,
Great video, I can't say enough about being passionate and pursuing AND meeting our goals. You can always learn something from what a family member or friend have to say about how they see us.
    Take care, Rick Ostler

  26. Harjit Irani Says:

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Also a step a day keeps the poverty away. What ever your goals and ambitions are always take a definite step and you will get there. Thanks for the reminder.

  27. kannan viswagandhi Says:

    Hi Joel,

That is a great inspirational message.Even though we can't be get out all at once,if we take one step at a time towards our goal and follow our passion, our dream will comw true and we will achieve our dream.I wanted to start a blog long back and write about self help,i postponed it for a long time, but came out from that,i started writing just one post. Now it is growing with articles, videos, book recommendations, inspirational stories.
Everything because,i just started with a little step towards my passion.

  29. Soda Pop Collectibles Says:

    Hey Joel,

I've been a subscriber of yours going back to the early days of Adsense and have read many of your blogs and watched many of your videos since that time. For me, this was your best message ever.

As you say, life is short and we have to make everyday count! I have several dreams that have been on hold due to financial reasons...dreams of doing things I know I am talented at and could have a good level of success with if I just had the time to pursue them. So, I began my web business several years ago to allow me to get out of the "day job rut" and into my passions.

So, the timing of your message was perfect because, in a few more weeks, I will have enough saved up to finally take that "leap of faith" and your encouraging vlog today will make it all the more easier. :-)

  30. John Says:

I must admit I feel quite depressed.

    - No good results for job researches (many interviews & no job at the end)
    - Still not working in what I could perform & feel so well
    - No real hope to improve my own professionnal situation (this is not the current President for France who will fix this)
    - Not yet the amount of clicks expected from my blog on AdSense ads (I know I have to work hard again to build more traffic)
    - Not even 1 email back from the people I tell they have technical problems (database, server) with their blog (you indeed)

... Even if I already read such advices in an ebook before, your video appears like a sunray in the clouds...

For sure I now need a few days (let's say 2 weeks) off to empty my mind with such bad feelings.

I keep reading your ebook (AdSense-secrets 4) & will implement some of your advices, tips & techniques after this.

I always wanted to work as a webmaster/traffic manager in French & English, it's may be time to give myself much more opportunities to reach that goal.

    Regards,
    John.

  33. Bill Hutchison Says:

Thanks for that message Joel. It really hits home with what I've been going through lately and helps me ask the question about "am I doing what God wants me to do?".

    Thanks again.
